Valentine's: we had a ball

Well, everyone seems to have survived another baking encounter at our house. Jonathan and I made Oreo Truffles for our Valentine "date". We had lots of fun hanging out together. After being together more than 10 years, we still love to laugh together the most. And nothing makes us laugh more than cooking. For the record, he's a much better cook than me. For anyone who's interested, here's the recipe.

1 package Oreo cookies (including cream center)

1 8 oz. package cream cheese (softened)

white chocolate bark

1. Finely crush 7 cookies in a food processor or place them in a ziplock bag and crush to a fine consistency. Reserve for later.

2. Crush remaining cookies and stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together.

3. Roll mixture into 1" balls and place on wax paper-covered cookie sheet.

(that's not wax paper)

4. Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate , tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry. Sprinkle tops with reserved cookie crumbs for decoration.

(Did you know that you can scorch this stuff on a level 2 heat setting? Crazy. Something else to babysit.)

5. Once dry, refrigerate and enjoy.

(these were delicious, but bountiful. We had to share the love.)

I took this recipe from Bakerella, Queen of the Cake Ball. Notice her fabulous kitchen photography. Don't be looking for anything like that from me. This is a reality show, folks. And the reality is that I can't think of the last time I had wax paper in my kitchen. I'm afraid that's a sign of a real cook . . . not someone who alphabetizes her take-out menus. And in the interest of full disclosure of my baking shortcomings, this recipe was actually in the plan for Christmas baking. (Insert crazed laughter here) This is pretty much how my plans go. However, we did decide that we could do much better job if only we had a chocolate waterfall. Watch Food Network much?
